This is my own recreation of Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. I used the original painting to recreate the scene in Maya through hard-surface modeling. My own personal spin is that I removed all humans and will replace them with a vending machine (digital server... every pun intended) and a google-driver-less car with the Uber-Eats logo attached to the car. I still need to finish modeling the car. I will then add lighting and attach textures and shades with bump / displacement maps. The goal is to make the picture look futuristic (2042, 100 years after the original painting.)

My take from the original Nighthawks is that there are people with such vastly different perspectives in the same place. This singular place is bright, ironically surrounded by a quiet city full of people sleeping; but only these individuals are awake in the scene. There's the couple, who appear to be enjoying their time and socializing. There's the lone man by himself. There's the waiter behind the table. The thing that sticks out to me is that each of these peoples potential emotions are relate-able. I can relate to a time when me and my friends were at a restaurant in the middle of the night having a great time. I can also relate to a time when I needed to work late hours in order to get the things I wanted in the future. This was a rough time in my life, but necessary to fulfill future happiness. I can also recall a time in my life when I've went out to grab a bite to eat by myself late at night. I've never felt so lonely. The only time I enjoyed going out to eat was the times when I was with others. To me, this picture means this: it doesn't matter where you are, how awake you are, or what time of the day it is. As long as you have someone to be with, it's so much easier to be happy. This is because most people need personal face-to-face interactions in order to maintain a mentally healthy happy lifestyle.
In my version of the painting, it's the year 2042; 100 years later. Nobody is driving the driver-less Uber Eats car. Nobody is eating at the restaurant. Nobody is working. This is because it's more convenient to simply order the food. This could become dangerous because in the original painting, the worker, the couple, and the loner could have had a conversation between each other. Even though the worker and employee may have initially been lonely, they could have been cheered up by the presence of others around them. With how fast technology has been advancing, this coincidental luxury may fade away.
